BIG NEWS! $10,000 Library Makeover

!!!!BIG NEWS!!!!

$10,000 Library Makeover Awarded to Short Avenue School

Dear Short Avenue Families,

Do you remember seeing emails for the LAUSD Summer Reading Challenge? They were asking students to read and log their reading hours. Well, it turns out that many of our students did participate in this challenge, and one of our students, Luna Vargas in TK, had her name picked out of a hat, awarding our Short Avenue School as the winner of a $10,000 Library Makeover!!!

Big thanks goes to Alicia Casilli, our tireless library aide, for spearheading this challenge and sharing the love of reading to all of our students! We also thank the Vargas Family and all the families who participated in this challenge. It is hard to imagine that anyone ever wins these things, but we did!!!

You may notice district employees painting and tidying up the school this week. This is in preparation for an assembly on Friday November 3rd at 8:00am, where we will be presented with “the big check” and will receive a visit from the international bestselling author Amy Ephron, who will sign copies of her new book The Castle in the Mist for the 5th and 6th grade classes, and the students who were part of the challenge. The book is available through Amazon for anyone else who would like to purchase a book. All Students will receive a bookmark!

The $10,000 will go directly to our library for new books and furniture. A survey is being conducted in the classrooms for students and teachers to suggest books to add to our collection.

Congratulations to Luna Vargas, Alicia Casilli, all the students who entered, and the students of Short Avenue School who will benefit from this exciting win!!!
