Enrollment Requirements
Students can enroll at any time for the current school year as long as they live within our attendance boundaries and their parents can provide their ID, proof of age for their child, proof of address, and immunizations. Parents should contact Principal Karen Reynolds if they live outside our attendance boundaries and wish to apply to Short Avenue.
For the 2023-2024 school year, students must be 5 years old by September 1, 2023 in order to enroll in kindergarten or have their 5th birthday between September 2, 2023 and September 1, 2024 for transitional kindergarten and meet the required residency and immunization requirements outlined below. Because of state law, no personal belief exemptions will be allowed for immunization requirements.
Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year begins March 1, 2023. You can access some of the necessary documents HERE or email our principal, Karen Reynolds, kreyno1@lausd.net to set up a time to come to the school to pick up a packet or schedule a time to turn in completed packets.
Provide Proof of Age
Please provide one of the following (original documents only – copies will be made and the originals will be returned):
• Birth Certificate (NOT hospital certificate)
• Passport
Provide Proof of Residency
Please provide one of the following:
- Current utility bill showing address (no telephone bills)
- Current bank statement
- Copy of escrow papers (if purchasing)
- Property tax papers
- Official lease agreement with name and phone # of lessor
Provide Proof of Immunizations
Please provide current documentation from your child’s doctor.
Students must have the following:
- 2 MMR
- 3 Hepatitis B
- 1 Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- 5 DTP
- 4 Polio

Donations to our 501(c)3 non-profit booster club, Friends of Short Avenue, go directly toward funding instructional aides, our Spanish music classes, teacher development, the edible garden, field trips, classroom supplies and much more. These programs aim to provide a well-rounded education and enrich the students' overall learning journey at Short Avenue elementary.
