For 4th and 5th graders who love puzzles, patterns, and a good challenge, Math Masters is a different kind of math class—one where how you think matters more than getting the right answer. Taught by a former Brooklyn math teacher and current Short Avenue dad, Matt McNeely.

Using engaging problems inspired by the Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS), students will tackle challenging questions individually and then come together to compare strategies, explain their thinking, and discover just how many different ways there can be to solve the same problem.

And these aren't ordinary worksheets! The problems are designed to make kids stop, think, experiment, and sometimes even stump the teacher—which might just be the best part.

Throughout the class, students will build confidence, persistence, creative problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning in a supportive environment where getting stuck isn't a failure—it's where the interesting thinking begins.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in official Math Olympiad challenges, with scores submitted to MOEMS.

Perfect for curious 4th & 5th graders who enjoy figuring out the “why,” not just finding the answer. No Math Olympiad experience required—just bring your curiosity and be ready to think!
